DIY Gold Lace Earrings
Occasionally I'll be inspired to make things after viewing images from runway shows or when I find interesting items in a store. During one of my trips to a local thrift store, I came across different lace pieces and quickly decided that I wanted to make a pair of huge, gold earrings.
I started out with one large, lace floral pattern and cut it in half to make two earrings.

I applied a few layers of Mod Podge to stiffen the lace with a sponge applicator (from Michaels). I allowed dry time in between each layer. I cheated a little by using a blow dryer because I didn't feel like waiting.
While the Mod Podge dried, I prepared the buttons that would be the jeweled pieces on the earrings. A pair of jewelry clippers were used to snip off the loop from the back of the buttons (bag of buttons from Michaels). Super Glue was used to bond the pearl back onto the button base.
Once the Mod Podge dried completely, I used metallic gold spray paint (from Walmart) on the earrings.
I used E6000 glue (from Michaels) to bond the jeweled buttons onto the earrings. I used a pair of jewelry pliers to attach the earring hooks and loops to the buttons. And there you have it!
These earrings are part of a future Dolce and Gabbana inspired post, so please stay tuned...
